NO CLASSES AT THE MOMENT!

Revival of an old activity well known to the elite of sports in Scandinavia, Nordic Walking became part of the health promoting* system in Finland in the mid nineties.
(* "friskvård"=care of good health, being a complement to "sjukvård"=care of the sick)

2001 i Sweden, my neighbour Erna shared her discovery with me. She was actually in great shape "in spite of" her "surprising" way of walking Nordic, and she convinced me! Now it's my turn to convince you, yes YOU, sitting there in front of your screen!

"Nordic Walking" fits each and everyone independently of age, weight and fitness degree.

In my classes I intend to promote good health through movement outdoor and in the "friskvård" spirit, since:

2003: Basic-Instructor training in Loèche-les Bains, Switzerland(=CH), with Urs Gehrig and Mathias Thierstein.
Additional training:
2004: in the heart of Emmental, CH: "Nordic Walking and Rhumatisms"
2005: in Bern, CH: "Technical Up-Dating": movement analysis and the use of a video-camera", with Urs Gehrig.
2006: in Santa Monica, California: "Saturday on the Beach" and private class for technical analysis emphasizing on "Fitness" with Malin Svensson, Certified Master Trainer and President of Nordic Walking USA.
2007: in Uster/Zürich, CH: "Feldenkreis und Nordic Walking", with Roli Bärtsch and Mathias Thierstein.

Objective and subjective effects of the Nordic Walking:

Nordic Walking spares the joints in the legs and lower back, and it also effectively relaxes the muscles in the neck and shoulders thank to the use of supple poles.

One improves physical condition and posture by getting stronger in the legs, back, arms and abdominal muscles.
Specific reinforcement and stretching exercises are proposed during the Nordic Walking classes. Using virtually every muscle in the body, one benefits from a good cardio-vascular workout. The burning of calories can be approximately 40% higher with "Nordic Walking" than with quick "walking" exercises without sticks.

"Nordic Walking" is also a way of developing coordination and mobility, which are very important for balance.
It seems that even bone-density progresses when walking Nordic regularely, particularly in the femoral head and neck area; this helps to prevent osteoporosis-linked risks.

A safe intensity level should allow you to keep a conversation going. Hence, once the technique is learned, one can enjoy the colours and scents of the surrounding nature, and allow thoughts to flow freely. Why not then share them with the other participants on the way?

With "Nordic Walking" you will find (- again) a wider freedom of movement in your daily life!

Where? At "La Perle du Lac", on Geneva's "Rive Droite", on the border of the lake.
